Distinguished Speaker Series: Dr. Don Neiffer, Smithsonian National Zoo Chief Veterinarian
The Friends of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge are hosting a "Distinguished Speaker Series" featuring the Smithsonian National Zoo Chief Veterinarian, Dr. Don Neiffer. Join us for an exciting evening as Dr. Neiffer shares stories from his fascinating career caring for a wide variety of incredible animals. This event will be held at the Intergenerational Center at 108 Chesapeake Street in Cambridge, Maryland on June 14, 2025.
- 6:30 - 7:00 pm: meet and greet
- 7:00- 7:45 pm: lecture
- 7:45 to 8:00 pm: Q & A
The lecture is $30 for Friends of Blackwater members and $40 for non-members, and seating is limited. This event is for ages 21 and older. If you are not already a Friends member, you can join on our Join/Donate page. The event will include one drink and refreshments, and all proceeds will go towards supporting Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Cambridge, Maryland.
About Dr. Don Neiffer
Dr. Donald L. Neiffer is the Chief Veterinarian at the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, where he oversees the health and welfare of the zoo’s diverse animal population, including its renowned giant pandas. With over 30 years of experience in zoological medicine, Dr. Neiffer has played a pivotal role in advancing veterinary care and conservation efforts for a variety of animals. Dr. Neiffer earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Millersville University and his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania.
About the Friends of Blackwater
This lecture is part of the Friends of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge “Distinguished Speaker Series”, and will be a fundraiser for the Friends and Blackwater NWR. The Friends provide support to Blackwater NWR and the Chesapeake Marshlands NWR Complex in its educational, interpretive, and public use missions. The Friends were founded in 1987 and are an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization with over 400 members.
